Critics of the tea party movement usually allege that it’s not a grassroots effort. Instead, they say, it’s a top-down effort. Participants are spoon-fed ideas and slogans. That’s what they say.
Here’s a “grassroots” recruitment email from MoveOn.org. It wants people to deliver letters to local offices of members of Congress. Don’t know what to say in a letter to your representative? No problem: “Just pick a time of day to drop off the letter, and we’ll follow up with everything you need, including a copy of the letter for you to print out.”
Oh, and if you have a “photo of someone who would be impacted by cuts to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid, you can bring that as well.”
