Post office, UPS to be Pachyderm topic

This Friday (October 25, 2013) the Wichita Pachyderm Club features Dr. Malcolm C. Harris, Sr. He is Professor of Finance at Friends University. Harris will speak on the topic “If the Postal Service Fails, Will it Be Time to Regulate UPS?” As Dr. Harris was at one time Manager of Economic Analysis and Forecasting for USPS, he should have some insight into this matter.

Malcolm C. Harris, Sr. is a Professor of Finance at Friends University where he teaches finance, and business strategy. Both local and national media have called on his expertise in finance, economics, energy, and regulation. He has appeared on KPTS, KWCH, KNS, and KAKE. He has been quoted in the Eagle, the Business Journal, USA Today, the Washington Post and on National Public Radio. He frequently appears on “This Week in Kansas,” (10:00 A.M., Sundays, KAKE, Channel 10.)

Professor Harris has taught finance and economics at various universities including the University of Connecticut, St. John’s University (N.Y.), George Mason, the University of New South Wales (Sydney), and St. Peter’s College. Formerly he was the Manager of Economic Analysis and Forecasting at the U.S. Postal Service and the Manager Finance and Economics at the Connecticut Public Utilities Control Authority. His responsibilities included forecasting revenues and volumes, managing rate case testimony, and advising senior management.

Dr. Harris has been an expert witness on either cost of capital or accounting issues before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, state public service commissions, and the Financial Accounting Standards Board. Dr. Harris has been a consultant for issues in energy planning, utility finance and pricing, rate regulation, securities litigation, and accounting. Early in his career he was a registered representative with Main Street Management.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend Wichita Pachyderm Club meetings. Meetings are held almost every Friday in the Wichita Petroleum Club on the top floor of the Bank of America Building at 100 N. Broadway. The program starts at noon, and it is suggested that guests arrive by 11:45 am in order to get their lunch before the program starts.
