WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) today issued the following statement on the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) release of its “Final Assessment on Past and Present Outstanding Issues regarding Iran’s Nuclear Programme.”

“The IAEA report on Iran’s nuclear program finally proves that Iran lied about never having attempted to develop nuclear weapons and that the Iranian Supreme Leader’s fatwa against nuclear weapons development is a fraud,” Pompeo said. “The IAEA’s report is dangerously incomplete and should be rejected by the IAEA Board of Governors for failing to fulfill its stated purpose of being a ‘final assessment’ of the possible military dimensions (PMDs) of Iran’s nuclear program. Understanding Iran’s past weaponization work is absolutely integral to verifying that this regime has not resumed its nuclear weapons program. The IAEA must not close the book on Iran’s past nuclear weapons related activities until a thorough and conclusive report has been completed. This document doesn’t even come close to accomplishing that basic task.”
