WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) today released the following statement on President Obama’s budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2017:

“Instead of reigning in Washington’s spending addiction and addressing our nation’s $19 trillion debt, President Obama presented an unrealistic budget plan aimed at expanding big government control at the expense of hardworking Kansans and Americans. The president’s plan picks winners and losers in the American energy sector with new taxes and increased spending for clean energy to fuel his liberal climate agenda. It includes wildly irresponsible proposals, such as the $10-a-barrel oil tax, which would raise the cost of gasoline by 24 cents per gallon. President Obama is also proposing an expensive Medicaid expansion as a final effort to expand Obamacare to states that have already rejected this disaster of a health care law. Kansans and Americans are tired of this bad budgeting. I am hopeful for new Republican leadership in the White House next year that will fix the financial mess created by this president.”
